Graphical Summary

To compare two groups on a categorical variable, the best graph to use is a segmented bar graph.

(c) Use Excel to create a segmented bar graph comparing the improvement rates between the two groups:

  • Highlight the row and column labels and the inside of the table (A1-C3, not the row and column totals).
  • bar graph 1
  • In Excel 2007: Select the Insert > Column, Select the last option in the first row ("100% Stacked Column").

  • In Excel 2003, choose Insert > Chart. Select the last option in the first row and press Finish.

  • Excel 2003: Right click on the graph and select Chart Options.
  • bar graph 3
