Stat 301 – Lab 4
Due Tuesday, Nov. 4
The goal of this lab assignment is to learn how to properly interpret the confidence level. Note, this is different from interpreting a confidence interval. To interpret a confidence interval, you would say something like, “I’m 95% confident that the population proportion is between… .” This lab should help you be able to answer what is meant by “95% confidence” is such a statement.
The lab assignment is to complete Exploration 4.3 (starting on p. 327). You are encouraged to work with one other person and turn in a jointly written report. You may turn in pages from your text with your answers on them, but remember to also include (and try to integrate) screen captures of the applet output using the “print screen” key, especially for questions (h), (k, (p) and (r).
For question (a), you should use the proportion of orange Reese’s that you observed in class Friday (Oct. 24). If you are working with another person, you can each find your own interval. If you do not remember your result, please substitute a suitable value but indicate that you are doing so. If we do not complete (b) and (c) in class, conjecture what you think the results will be.
