Stat 301 - Lab 5

Due Thursday, Nov. 13

You are encouraged to work with one other person on this lab and turn in one collaboratively written report. The assignment is to complete Exploration 4.4 (p. 350) which makes use of two different java applets. You may turn in either a word-processed report with screen captures embedded (my preference) or hand-written answers from the textbook pages with very well labeled figures attached. You should include screen captures of your output for each question, showing the “running total” output for 1000 intervals.

Keep in mind that these applets are not how you would analyze actual sample data, their goal is solely to help you explore the behavior of the confidence interval procedures.

See p. 283 for a picture of an exponential model.

Some notes to keep in mind:

· Don’t use comparative words like “better” without explaining what you mean (what is your basis for deciding something is better?)

· For each population you will have 3 sample sizes (5, 25, 50)

· In (g), remember to focus on shape, center, and spread and to fully compare the distributions on these aspects.

· You will be repeated question (i), remember that is has several questions to address.
